Last month we wrote about our products and services that we provide here at Solweb. One of those particular services is the integration of business systems, to allow automated data flow(s) from one to the other. Being a custom software development business, providing we are able to connect to the systems via an Application Programming Interface (API), we are able to customise the project to suit specific individual business requirements. The automated transfer of data, takes away the need for employee manual input, exporting of files and duplication of data entry, consequently saving time and any errors that us humans are prone to making!!
One of the specific areas of integration that we regularly complete is with accounting packages. We work with many different packages including Sage 50, Sage 200, Access Dimensions and Xero. With accounting being a crucial area of any business, the need for accuracy and comprehensive reporting is essential. Being an accredited Sage developer, based here in Dorset and recognised as a specialist integrator for other packages, Solweb have abundant experience when it comes to integrating systems with accounting packages. Working independently or with our business partners, we have integrated Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, e-commerce web sites (that we also develop) and a host of other systems with accounting packages to provide a seamless process of data transfer and comprehensive reporting.
Our Accounts Gateway product is a perfect example of this process. Positioned between either Sage 50, Sage 200, Access Dimensions or Xero and 123Insight (MRP system), Accounts Gateway enables multiple systems to talk and share data with each other without any manual user intervention or data entry. Information can be pushed between the two systems via a series of API calls, including the following:
- Retrieving and Creating Customers and Suppliers
- Sending over Sales Invoices and Credits to the destination Accounting System
- Sending over Purchase Invoices and Credits to the destination Accounting System
- Additional information can be gathered from the accounts system to be made available in the MRP/ERP system. This includes Customer Balances and Credit Limits, as well as Aged Debt and Outstanding Invoices.

As a custom software development company, we often get asked what is it exactly that you do. Because of the wide variety of projects that we complete, it can be quite dfficult to give a specific answer. However, if we had to give one, then the most accurate answer would be that we develop bespoke software that is tailored to your business.
Too often, businesses purchase "off the shelf" software, in the belief that it is the best fit for them and how their business operates. The reality is, only 50-60% of the functionality available is generally used and it becomes a bit of a wasted spend. We are not going to dismiss these applications as a total waste of time/money, as some are very good and provide many benefits. However, what we do at Solweb, is we build the software, so that it fits in your business exactly and 100% of the functionality is utilised. This approach ensures the need for manual input is reduced, maximum time savings are made, inceasing the efficiency of your business. Furthermore, all of our software is built with the future in mind, so should your business change its processes or grows rapidly, we can adapt, upgrade or bolt on new software to the original application to ensure it adequately manages the changes.
We offer three main services -
1. Development of bespoke/custom software applications - We create bespoke solutions and custom applications to help your business run efficiently. Every company has its own unique processes that you shouldn’t have to change to tailor to something else so we adapt off-the-shelf software or develop something new to help you advance.
2. Automation/Data Transfer - Your data in the form of business documents, orders, invoices or other structured formats can be electronically exchanged between different computer applications or systems using our data transfer technology. The integration of two existing systems means that regular, repetitive tasks involving data entry are automated, avoiding human errors and massively saving time. Up to date information is available whenever you want it, wherever you are.
3. E-Commerce Web Solutions - Our team are incredibly experienced at creating functional websites based on the client’s needs for use and design. The quality of a website can have a profound effect on the success of your business so we develop our e-commerce solutions to reflect you and your precise requirements.
Quite often, these three services overlap and we specialise in not only creating tailored software, specific to your business, but we can then ensure that systems "talk" to each other, negating the need to export files, print off documents and duplicate manual entries. Installation of our products such as Accounts Gateway or Databridge , will ensure that data is passed automatically which allows staff who are completing administrative tasks, to potentially work on more pro active tasks such as marketing or business development. We can also develop custom reports and automate the creation and delivery to key personnel should this be needed.
Once we have developed, thoroughly tested and deployed your software, we offer a comprehensive support package so you can be safe in the knowledge that in the unlikely event, you suffer any issue with the application or service, our developers are on hand to resolve quickly and with minimum, if any, interruption to your business. We operate an in house monitoring system that alerts us to any issues that may occur. It is often the case, that we are alerted to an issue and rectify it before you have even noticed there was a problem! We offer a complete service to ensure you can focus on running your business and be assured that you have, not only the most effective software, but that it is being actively monitored and can be upgraded to accommodate any business changes at any point in time if needed.
If you are in the position where time is of a premium and your software is not doing what you need it to do, contact us and let our team help you to help your business.

As a UK custom software company, we spend a lot of our time outlining the benefits of business process automation in general terms. You might expect us to make that argument, given the business we’re in, but statistics from around the world help to underline the massive impact which automating routine, repetitive and time consuming tasks can have on the place where it matters the most – the bottom line.
Automation Benefits
According to consultants McKinsey 60% of occupations could save 30% of their time through the automation of tasks such as generating sales leads, approving paperwork, and processing documents. At the same time a survey from Deloitte stated that investment in business process automation would not only pay for itself in less than 12 months, it would also produce the following benefits:
• Improved compliance – 92%
• Improved quality/accuracy – 90%
• Improved productivity – 86%
• Cost reduction – 59%
Custom Software:
Any UK bespoke software company would recommend the use of automation software as being both a technological and business inevitability. From a technological perspective, if the systems exist to streamline repetitive tasks, then it falls upon any forward-thinking business to explore how these systems could help. According to independent global research the average office worker spends 552 hours a year performing repetitive or administrative tasks, which equates to 69 working days. If you’re someone who runs a business then it probably doesn’t take too long to calculate exactly how much 69 wasted days are costing your business every year. In addition to this is the simple fact that, of those businesses which already make use of business process automation, 78% fully expect to increase their investment in the next 3 years. In other words, if your business doesn’t take advantage of the efficiencies driven by custom software automation then it is likely to be left behind by competitors who have opted to do so.
Fewer Staff in the Office
As stated, these are the general arguments for the take-up of automation and they can be firmly applied against what might be called the standard operational backdrop of the average business. That backdrop has been anything but standard since 2020, the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had and the accompanying waves of lockdown have, if anything, strengthened the case for investing in automation. Businesses across the UK had to adapt to the reality of their employees working from home. Indeed, many of the largest companies in the world, such as Amazon and Google, took to making the shift to home working at least semi-permanent, so the issues around staff working remotely that affected businesses in 2020 are pretty much here to stay now, with hybrid or even fully remote work patterns now in place.
The fact that the systems we create are bespoke and tailored for the individual business in question is a vital aspect of their effectiveness. Many businesses purchase "off the shelf" software solutions that are misaligned with existing processes and impossible to scale up in the future as requirements change as a business grows and evolves. Issues such as these aren’t going to impact on those businesses which work with Solweb, because our bespoke software solutions are designed and installed with integration and future-proofing built in.
